The Comedy of Errors
By William Shakespeare
Andrés Lima directs this crazy version by Albert Boronat of the classic comedy by William Shakespeare.
What is Truth? What is the origin of all that we agree to call "truth"? Where do the foundations of the correct answers lie? Isn't error the answer to all these questions? What would truth and correctness be if it weren't for error? Would they even exist as such?
The Comedy of Errors is an original story by William Shakespeare that he wrote back in 1592 but that director Andrés Lima, together with Albert Boronat, have managed to adapt to our times to teach us that we must celebrate errors. This co-production of the Mérida International Classical Theatre Festival begins with a death sentence and everything turns into a party by mistake.
Pepón Nieto, Fernando Soto, Rulo Pardo, Santiago Molero, Avelino Piedad and Esteban Garrido are the actors involved in this play as funny as it is crazy.
Synopsis
We are in Ephesus, a city full of cheats, magicians capable of deceiving the eye, dark sorcerers who upset the mind, murderous witches who deform the body, rogues disguised as charlatans and libertine sinners.
Antipholus and Dromio of Syracuse (an ancient city in Greece now located in Sicily), master and servant, arrive in the city looking for their respective twin brothers. The father of both pairs of palindromes also arrives in Ephesus, being arrested as an illegal alien as soon as he sets foot in port, and is sentenced to death. Only by finding his children can he be saved.
Antipholus and Dromio of Ephesus (an ancient city in Greece now located in Turkey) live in the city being mistaken for their Syracuseian brothers. Luciana and Adriana, the couple of the latter, are the first to confuse their husbands with their brothers. From here, mistakes with old debtors, jewels in the wrong hands, unpaid debts, begin to demonize our characters to the point of needing an exorcist. Everything will become more and more complicated, mistake after mistake, until the appearance of a Mother Abbess who is neither a nun nor a virgin. That is when the disaster turns into a party.
