Performance "Don Juan Tenorio"

Description

The Carolina Theatre brings to the stage one of the most important works of Spanish romantic theatre: Don Juan Tenorio.

Don Juan Tenorio makes a vile bet with Don Luis Mejia which consists of conquering in record time a naive novice and also the fiancée of his enemy Jose Mejia. He manages to achieve his objectives: he deceives his rival's fiancée and kidnaps the noble girl Doña Ines, barely seventeen years old, from the convent. But something incredible happens: Don Juan falls madly in love with the naive Ines and decides to ask her father Don Gonzalo de Ulloa for her hand in marriage.

Don Gonzalo de Ulloa and Don Luis Mejia go furiously to the house of the seducer Don Juan Tenorio to confront him about his vile conduct in deceiving the two naive girls. Don Juan Tenorio confronts the angry knights, managing to kill both of them.

The womanizer Don Juan flees in terror, abandoning Doña Inés, who dies of grief. Upon his return, after many years, Don Juan Tenorio finds a pantheon in what had once been his home, where his victims and his beloved Inés are buried.

Don Juan Tenorio, completely repentant, asks for forgiveness. When the souls of his former victims were about to take him to hell, the ghost of Doña Inés appeared at that moment, preventing them from taking him and saving his soul.
