If we think of our existence as a ball of thread, we always pay more attention to the end of life and less to that of death.
Chavela Vargas came into the world to sing truths with her heart and with the dagger of her voice. She once said: “I am not going to die because I am a shaman and we do not die, we transcend”
María Isabel Anita Carmen de Jesús Vargas Lizano returns home after a long tour, the last one. Her friend “La Pelona” comes to pick her up in three days and Chavela oscillates between the edge of this and the other world. From time to time she forgets who she is, but a red thread takes her far away; to those places “where she loved life”, to a limbo of memories that visit her before her departure. There, an old woman awaits death, a wounded girl rules within a woman and a Myth becomes eternal.
The characters appear and vanish in a stage setting endowed with magical realism. Every night, we will channel “the Myth” who will sing to us and take us to that dream world.
Chavela will teach us to look at ourselves in her free and resounding mirror, living, dying and becoming eternal.
That is why Chavela Vargas is much more That's all of it. We are all Chavela and we are all Chavela.
