Exhibition | Welcome Spring 2025
From March 21 to March 30, 2025
Every spring, the façade of the Casa de México Foundation in Spain is decked out in an explosion of color and life.
This year, our floral installation celebrates the biodiversity of Mexican forests and jungles by commemorating native species that are key to ecosystems and whose contribution to the balance and functioning of the environment sometimes goes unnoticed.
Butterflies are crucial for pollination and are a food source for diverse species such as birds, spiders, and lizards, for example. Furthermore, their presence or absence is an indicator of the health of an ecosystem. Mexico is home to 9% of the known butterfly species on the planet.
Behind this installation are Cristina Faesler, designer and cultural promoter, and Mathew Holmes, architect, who invite us to reflect on our connection with nature and the importance of protecting it.
Seventeen large butterflies grace our facade, representing key species such as the brimstone butterfly, the blue morpho, the comet butterfly, the Mexican barony butterfly, the lemon butterfly, and, of course, the iconic monarch, a tireless traveler across North America. Surrounding them, a careful selection of flowers evokes the lushness of the Mexican landscape, from the delicate passion flower to the vibrant tabachín.
