Description
The works of Metropol Parasol uncovered visible remains of much of the Roman period, from Tiberius (ca. 30 AD) to the 12th century. VI and an Almohad Islamic house from the 12th and 13th centuries. In addition, this site conserved information of periods that include the average, modern and contemporary ages.
The archaeological remains are located in an open space of 4,879 square meters, with the remains of the Roman city at -5.45 meters and a free height of 3.95 meters. Regardless of these measures, Antiquarium is conceived to be a container in which the feeling of being spatially limited by concrete walls is lost.
Antiquarium contemplates a glass membrane that surrounds the entire space, with the ability to modify our perception thanks to its changing, almost chameleonic quality, to vary its properties: being transparent or translucent, passing through all the intermediate degrees; letting see or reflecting an image, letting light pass through or reflecting it.
This effect, together with the hanging walls (built with metallic textiles) and the lanterns of light, have the purpose of reconstructing the sensations of the spaces in which our ancestors lived.
