Description

Over the course of 5 sessions, we will be introduced to the history and meaning of two traditional Mexican embroideries: Pepenado and Tenango. You will learn which are the appropriate materials (fabric, needle and thread) for each one, as well as the stitches and techniques required to carry out the practical exercises step by step. In the sessions, a small sample of stitches and a final motif will be worked on.
Pepenado embroidery, an Otomi embroidery tradition in San Juan Ixtenco, State of Tlaxcala, is a technique worked on counted thread fabrics and is relatively affordable.
It is distinguished by looking like a negative, where the drawing is usually white like the background and is surrounded by colored stitches.
Tenango embroidery, originating in the State of Hidalgo, is considered cultural heritage of Mexico. Tenangos, of great aesthetic beauty, are characterized by their combination of bright colors where flowers, animals or scenes from daily life and traditions appear. Session 1 – Sunday, January 19
