In each session of the cycle The Nopal and the Snake, we are invited to discover and reinterpret emblematic symbols of Mexican culture through play, collaborative creation and various artistic techniques, fostering imagination and creativity as a family.

Nopalera of colors
In this session of the cycle The Nopal and the Snake, we will explore the symbolic, visual and ecological richness of the nopal. We will share stories, myths and images that will allow us to rediscover this characteristic cactus of Mexico. Inspired by these narratives, we will bring to life our own creative nopalera. Using paint and collage, we will build together a community nopalera full of colors and nuances.

Serpentine of colors
In this session of the cycle The nopal and the snake, we will delve into the symbolic and visual richness of the snake as a deity and as an essential graphic motif in Mexico and various cultures of the American continent. We will explore stories, myths and surprising images that will serve as a reference and inspiration to create our own multicolored snakes. Through painting and collage, participants will collaborate in the creation of snakes full of movement and vibrant colors.

In this session of the cycle The nopal and the snake we will explore the symbolic, visual and ecological richness of the nopal. We will look closely at the incredible details and patterns that we can find in this characteristic Mexican cactus and we will be inspired by the shapes of nature to give life to our own creative nopalera. Through painting and stamps, we will learn to create textures and patterns that will enrich our collective nopalera with original details.

Texture Serpentine
In this session of the cycle The Nopal and the Snake we will explore the symbolic and visual richness of the snake as a deity and fundamental graphic motif both in Mexico and in different cultures of the American continent. We will be inspired by the fascinating motifs and patterns of the scales of these animals and we will learn to create textures and patterns with stamps and paint to design snakes never seen before.

We will analyze the incredible strategies of cacti to adapt and thrive in extreme climates, and we will be inspired by nature to build a creative nopalera that glows and blooms in the dark, using fluorescent paint and black light.

Serpentine in the Dark
In this session of the cycle The Nopal and the Snake, we will explore the symbolic and visual richness of the snake as a deity and fundamental graphic motif in Mexico and various cultures of the American continent. Inspired by the transformation and duality associated with this powerful animal, we will create magical snakes that mutate in the dark and reveal hidden stories between their scales thanks to the use of fluorescent paint and black light.
Taught by Daniela Martagón, Mexico City, 1986
Visual artist, illustrator, graphic storyteller and teacher. She has collaborated in the illustration of numerous books and in the creation of art and education courses and programs aimed at audiences of all ages. Her work includes the design and development of teaching materials for museums, cultural spaces and associations, with the purpose of promoting creativity, dialogue and learning through art.
