Description
Madrid from the dance is a choral and apocryphal story of the city of Madrid, counted from, through and around the dance. It is a zigzagging walk for centuries of cultural and political production, and proposes a look at a city that has been built at the papas, zarabandas, chotis, rigodones, techner and reggaetons hymns.
To understand what this means, let's start freeing ourselves from the idea that there is only one story and a single art. Let us continue to lighten the pressure to determine what one and what is the other, and enjoy observing how popular practices, small ordinary stories and great milestones are intertwined inseparable in the production of the city. Let's finish this imaginary opening exercise, taking the license to start looking behind the curtains of the great founding stories of Madrid, enjoying the opportunity to find some of its deepest gears outside the books: in collective celebrations, in The nonverbal dialogues between danceful bodies, in the hedonistic dancing frenzy.
Madrid from the dance proposes us to explore this idea: open windows on a street where fashion songs played by the Organillos of the APPROZZEE workshop, invites us to celebrate a Rave from 4000 years ago in the company of a community that inhabits the Pedriza, He takes us for the Elyseos fields in Madrid and enjoying a nineteenth -century dance in Paradise Garden. It accompanies us around the hermitage of San Antonio de la Florida, by the Virgen del Puerto, El Manzanares and the Pradera de San Isidro, for those places that, in the last 500 years, have not only been epicenters of popular leisure, but true laboratories where the policy and culture of the city has been cooked.
The exhibition enters the hall and proletariat rooms, discos, clubs, Afters and clubs of mischief, frivolity and dissidents, observes the great technological, aesthetic, social and political revolutions but also those things that have not changed and, perhaps, will never change.
Madrid from the dance is curated by Massimiliano Casu, creator and cultural producer original of collective performatic practices as instruments for the activation of citizen participation. His work focuses on investigating the processes of collective production of urban social space, focusing mainly on the repertoire of popular musical rituals, whether these Rave, neighborhood verbenas or young people in young people in public spaces. He has published texts and articles on the social production of urban space through the party and has been the promoter of a holiday-hapning symphine in collaboration with the main Madrid and state cultural institutions. Since 2018 he has been director of Ciudad Danc, a festival that investigates the relationship between dance and urban life in Madrid, held in collaboration with Intermediate-Matadero Madrid.
