VANG. Músicas en vanguard, CentroCentro's longest-running self-produced cycle, begins its seventh edition as part of MC2 Músicas en CentroCentro, the new musical programming of this space in the Area of Culture, Tourism and Sports. Curated by Sergio Luque and Víctor Barceló, VANG explores the extraordinary power of sound to generate absorbing and revealing experiences.

VANG integrates works from both the 20th century and recent creation, consecrated or experimental, whose common point is the objective of expanding the limits of musical thought. In contrast to last year's edition, which opted for more minimalist pieces, VANG VII presents a selection of works that take advantage of complexity: the macrosonic and the microtonal, noise and mathematics, chaos and computers.

The cycle starts on Saturday, May 18, at 7:30 p.m., with the INTRA concert. Computational rhythms for microtonal metallophones by Mark Fell and DRUMMING Grupo de Percussão. INTRA is a work composed for sixxens, six metallophones designed by the Greek composer Iannis Xenakis, each tuned slightly differently. In this concert, each percussionist will receive a rhythmic structure through headphones that they must follow on their instrument, giving rise to a momentary gap between score and performer that will cause the musical phrases to contract or expand, subjecting the notion of perfection as a crisis. performative imperative.

Mark Fell is a multidisciplinary artist based in Rotherham (United Kingdom). His practice is based on subcultures of electronic music, experimental film and contemporary philosophy.

DRUMMING Grupo de Percussão, founded in 1999, includes in its repertoire proposals ranging from contemporary music, Rock-Jazz-World-Music, through music for theater, opera and dance, as well as contemporary thematic and educational programming. .

On June 22, VANG will present its second concert based on the work of Iannis Xenakis with Persepolis.
