Riot Grrrl: Girls in front!
In the nineties, the Riot Grrrl movement emerged, whose name was born from a growl of rage and took shape in a rebellion made up of female creators expelled and excluded from the underground current. The works of these artists emerged with special force in music and self-publishing through highly politicized creations produced collectively.
However, the movement barely had any resonance in cinema, a medium that these creators considered elitist, meritocratic and masculinized. Despite this, some authors dedicated themselves to creating hooligan filmographies that embraced the energies of punk and mocked the film institution. The Riot Grrrl film movement is nourished by the rebellion of filmmakers who, from the avant-garde, expand the limits of conventional cinematographic language and imagine new languages. At the same time, the current continues to have resonances in many current creations, but how is the panorama of amateur feminist cinema today? Is he still roaring with rage?
The cycle Feminist Film Manifestos IX, which this year, in addition to taking place at the Center for Contemporary Culture of Barcelona, expands to two other spaces: the Círculo de Bellas Artes of Madrid and the Filmoteca of Valencia.
